Castelli Sorpasso 2 Wind Bibtight Review

Castelli Sorpasso 2 Wind Bibtight

  • Material: [front, knee membrane] Gore Windstopper X-Fast, [back of legs] Thermoflex Core2, [back panel, lower legs] Nano Flex Xtra Dry
  • Season: winter
  • Fit: Form-Fitting
  • Length: Full-Length
  • Chamois: Progetto X2 Air

Dedicated cyclists know no offseason, and if you plan to maintain or improve fitness, maintenance and gains are made during those cold months when freezing temps are the norm. Castelli recognizes the importance of proper winter clothing better than most and creates garments that thrive in those conditions, and one of its warmest tight, the Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight, is another finely crafted chapter in the storied Italian brand’s book. It embodies its classic Castelli fit and quality that will keep you motivated to ride through the harsh winter along with technical fabrics to keep you comfortable when most cyclists have committed to the rollers. The Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight takes everything that makes its Sorpasso winter tight excellent and gives it even more firepower against the winter elements. Like the standard Sorpasso, it consists of Thermoflex Core2 at the back of the legs that allow for excellent wicking and breathability. By drawing the sweat away from your skin and transferring it to the back of the garment, out of the way of oncoming frigid wind, it greatly reduces the chilling effect. For the back panel and lower legs, it employs a water-repellent Nano Flex Xtra Dry which provides protection from wheel spray on wet roads. What separates the tight from the standard Sorpasso and is something you’re sure to appreciate in blustery conditions is its inclusion of Gore Windstopper X-Fast panels that extend from the waist to just past the knees. This windproof, four-way stretch fabric has a fleece layer that sits softly against the skin. As such, it extends the temperature range of the Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight down to well below freezing, with Castelli recommending it ideal at temps between 23 and 46-degrees Fahrenheit where the standard Sorpasso occupies a milder 41 to 54-degree range. The tight also features a lumbar support pad that helps keep the tight form-fitting around the waist preventing the cold and wind from creeping in beneath your winter jack…

Castelli Alpha Ros Jacket – Women’s Review

Castelli Alpha Ros Jacket - Women's

  • Material: Gore Windstopper 150
  • Waterproof Rating: 10,000mm
  • Season: winter
  • Fit: form-fitting
  • Length: hip

We’re well aware of the additional hardships and discomfort associated with riding during the winter months. We certainly don’t want our apparel to be our excuse for not getting out, so if you’re in the market for a thermal jacket that offers excellent protection during times of precipitation, take a look at the Women’s Alpha ROS Jacket from Castelli. It blocks the weather, but the outer layer and insulating layer are separate, so you can choose how much insulation and protection you need, even mid-ride. Part of the reason dressing for winter riding is so difficult is that we need to stay warm for most of the ride but if the pace picks up or there is climbing involved, we’ll quickly turn into a sweaty mess leaving our muscles feeling stiff and us shivering for the rest of the ride. From working with pros and from other garments it’s created, Castelli learned that a jacket with wind and water protection was necessary, but that protection could occasionally be too much. The Alpha ROS is prepared to pamper you with warmth and dryness this winter riding season. Castelli uses the requisite Windstopper 150 membrane and thermal insulation in the Alpha, but does so in two detached layers allowing each piece to do what it does best and further regulate temperatures while climbing. As you heat up, unzipping the shell lets the wind hit the jacket’s thermal layer cooling you off gradually instead of with an unmitigated arctic blast. The thermal layer insulates while breathing quite well so you get more of a thermostat and less of an on/off feel. It’s able to manage moisture continuously as you summit the climb keeping you dry as possible. At the top, simply zip up and head down without teeth rattling or shivering throwing you off your lines through corners. On the plunge down, you’ll appreciate the Gore Windstopper 150 membrane. The windproof three-layer, four-way stretch knit fabric with a water-resistant DWR coating keeps wind out and precipitation at bay. You’ll want …

Castelli 2016 Women’s Aero Race Full Zip Short Sleeve Cycling Jersey – A16053 Review

Castelli 2016 Women's Aero Race Full Zip Short Sleeve Cycling Jersey - A16053

  • Compression band around waist keeps 3 rear pockets in place
  • Zippered key pocket
  • Silicone gripper elastic
  • Full-length YKK reflective zipper pull
  • Reflective heat-transfer viz strips

IT’S THE NEW NORMAL. When we first introduced the aero jersey to the pro peloton in 2007 it was seen as radical. By 2009 all the pro teams were jumping on the bandwagon, and in the following years the aero revolution steadily spread to more and more cyclists. This is a women’s-fit version of our full WorldTour-level aero race jersey, the fastest jersey we’ve ever tested. But we haven’t limited it to racing: it has a full-length front zipper for easy on/off, a zippered pocket for valuables, three full-size rear pockets for carrying cargo on your long rides, and excellent mois- ture-management fabrics throughout. When we started engineering aero jerseys nearly a decade ago we didn’t imagine they would become the new normal, but you’ll find that every ride is faster and more fun in this new not-only-for-racing jersey. Women’s-specific version of the Aero Race 5.1 Jersey Velocity Dry fabric on front. 3D mesh on back to prevent overheating. Air Mesh arm bands.

Castelli Cross Sanremo Speedsuit Review

Castelli Cross Sanremo Speedsuit

Like a jersey and shorts sewn together, the Castelli Cross Sanremo Speedsuit is a highly aerodynamic body suit for cool fall and mild winter training and cyclo-cross race days. Great ventilation and a combination of the right fabric and construction make an aerodynamic and breathable body suit for cyclists who will not let cold weather keep them from riding hard and riding fast. The Sanremo has been made specifically for those muddy wet cyclocross races. Stretch under arms lets you have full mobility so you can jump on and off the bike and run through mud. It

Castelli Sanremo 2 Thermosuit Review

Castelli Sanremo 2 Thermosuit

  • Material: [top] Gore Windstopper X-Lite, [bottom] Thermoflex, Thermoflex Core2
  • Fit: form-fitting
  • Length: full-length
  • Chamois: yes, Progetto X2 Air
  • Bib: no

When gearing up for cold-weather cycling, we typically accept that things like fit comfort and aerodynamics will be sacrificed in favor of wind-stopping power and warmth. Leave it to Castelli to refuse this sacrifice with the Sanremo 2 Men’s Thermosuit, a piece of kit designed to offer the aerodynamic benefits of a bulk-free fit without the restriction of bibs–all while preserving the benefits you’d expect from the company’s flagship cold-weather technology. The Sanremo 2 uses a mix of fabric panels in strategic locations to create a microclimate in the sliver of space between your skin and the Thermosuit. The Windstopper X-Lite fabric leads the charge on the upper portion, offering 1. 4 billion impossibly small pores per square inch that guard your microclimate jealously. They don’t let wind in, but they do let moisture and water vapor out. This isn’t just based on vague marketing copy, though; the science behind Windstopper X-Lite is measurable in a rating called CFM, which stands for cubic feet per minute, used to measure the volume of air that passes through a fabric in–you guessed it–one minute. In order to be considered truly “windproof,” a fabric must register a CFM of equal to or less than 1. 0. The Windstopper X-Lite fabric actually beats this rating, so you’re guaranteed a literally windproof top. The bottom portion is a mix of Thermoflex and Thermoflex Core2, using the former for areas that need more stretch and the latter in areas that need more protection. Both iterations of Thermoflex use hollow-core yarn to increase the size and insulating power of that thin microclimate. The whole Thermosuit is water-resistant and lined with a brushed interior so it’s comfortable against your skin without any need of a mediating base layer. The fit is the same bulk-free, race-worthy fit you’d enjoy wearing Castelli’s Gabba Long-Sleeve Jersey and Sorpasso Bib Tights, less two elements: The bibs and the gaps. We often find that bibs are unduly constrictive on col…

Castelli Evoluzione 2 Knicker Review

Castelli Evoluzione 2 Knicker

  • Material: ProDry Soft 2-layer
  • Fit: form-fitting
  • Chamois: KISS Air
  • Chamois Thickness: 4 – 14 mm
  • Claimed Weight: 189 g

If you’ve been subjecting yourself to blasts of chilly air while riding in traditional cycling shorts, look no further than the Castelli Men’s Evoluzione 2 Knicker for additional coverage required for cool conditions in late autumn and spring. This basic knicker forms the basis for Castelli’s range of knickers, providing excellent value, but without sacrificing the form-fitting support or plush padding you’d find on more premium offerings. Case in point, the ProDry Soft 2-layer fabric actively pulls moisture off your body to better regulate body temperature. It’s comprised of a polyester knit inner layer for a smooth feel and moisture-wicking comfort, paired with a nylon outer layer for a bit more support and shape retention over time. Unlike other basic knickers on the market, the Evoluzione 2 comes with a top-flight KISS Air chamois comprised of infinitely variable thickness foam that’s tapered along the sides for flexibility and thicker along the rear to relieve pressure on sensitive areas. It employs a seamless microfiber lining with dimpled surface that speeds up evaporation of sweat, as to eliminate the damp, irritating feel of a soaked chamois. Additionally, this knicker comes with InMold silicone leg grippers with a clean edge finish to prevent the bottoms from riding up.

Castelli Classica Jersey Review

Castelli Classica Jersey

  • Material: [jersey] Prosecco; [collar lining] meshFit: slimPockets: 3 rear, 1 rear zipZip: full-lengthWindproof Rating: SPF Rating: UPF Rating: Recommended Use: road cyclingManufacturer Warranty: 30 days

Castelli designed the Classica Jersey for those who place an overall value on quality without sacrificing race-ready characteristics. Think of it as a hybrid — Italian styling crossed with technical racing materials. Pull on the Classica when you’re planning on stopping at the cafe mid-ride for an espresso or when you’re gearing up to hammer laps at your weekly criterium. The Classica takes a nod from jerseys of the past, using an understated, single-fabric style throughout. The Prosecco multi-denier material is soft and silky-smooth with a topical hydrophilic treatment that pulls moisture off of the skin and disperses it over a large surface area for rapid evaporation. This exclusive microfiber fabric maintains the jersey’s clean drape regardless of how much sweat you produce underneath. Advancing this principle, a sleek mesh collar lining wicks moisture and keeps your neck cool and comfortable, even when the jersey is fully zipped. The sharp cut of the Classica Jersey, along with smooth seams and a full-length hidden zipper, completes the streamlined, elegant fit. Three external pockets along the back make it easy to grab your extra gear, and an additional zippered key pocket keeps your valuables safely hidden and out of the way. Small reflective tabs line the bottom of the center rear pocket, completing this gentleman’s jersey from Castelli. Look closely at the Classica and you see the attention to small, but necessary, details has not been overlooked. Graphic treatment is subtle, with just two tasteful logos and a thin, contrasting band across the upper chest and shoulders. The Castelli Classica Jersey is available in six sizes from Small to XXX-Large and in the colors Black, Orange, and White.
