Castelli Free Vest Review

Castelli Free Vest

Vests aren’t just for banjo-wielding hipsters that are going for the hobo-chic look — they’re actually quite useful for temperate weather cycling. The Castelli Free Vest allows for just the right amount of warmth on the days where you’re torn on wearing a jacket or not. It features the latest Castelli technology for optimal wind and rain protection, while providing exceptional warmth and comfort. The Free Vest is a piece that hold its own against most jackets, but is light enough to simply bring with you when you’re unsure of Mother Nature’s intent. Castelli’s Free vest is made from the W.L. Gore Windstopper X-Lite Plus fabric — the same material used for Roger Hammond’s favorite jersey, the Gabba WS. Developed in partnership with Castelli, this fabric combines the fit of a race jersey with the wind protection of a jacket. The end result is a breathable winter vest that’s effective at temperatures as low as 50 degrees. While the Windstopper fabric is used on the front and shoulders, for further temperature regulation, the back features the ultra-wicking Velocity fabric. The Free vest is fully windproof, and features a high collar for protection from element exposure. The Castelli Free Vest is available in six sizes from Small to XXX-Large and in the colors Black, Black/yellow fluorescent, and Cyan.
